Museum Association: 'Charging will not work for all museums'

Museums and galleries across the UK are considering charging for entry, according to the Museums Association.

The government has pledged to keep free entry at venues classed as national museums - such as the British Museum, Tate and National Gallery, but that pledge does not cover council-funded museums.

Many museums are having their subsidies cut, and are now looking at ways of increasing revenue.

Museum Association President David Fleming told BBC Breakfast that while charging for entry would work for some museums, for others it could seriously reduce their visitor numbers.
